In a powerful display of anguish and frustration, women from Oke-Ere community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State took to the streets on Wednesday to protest the growing insecurity plaguing their area.
The protesters, mostly elderly women, marched through the town chanting mournful songs in the local Yagba dialect. In a video seen by this medium, the women—many of them appearing half-naked—held sticks and tree branches as they cried out over the spate of kidnappings, killings, and attacks that have become a daily reality for them.
They described the situation as an “endless reign of terror” and pleaded with both the government and security agencies to urgently intervene and restore peace to their community.
The protest follows a recent attack in March along the Ayere-Kabba Expressway, where gunmen kidnapped three people and left four others injured. The injured victims were rushed to St. John’s Hospital in Kabba for medical treatment.
The women say their protest is a desperate call for help, urging authorities to take immediate action before the situation spirals further out of control.
