Soludo Defends Crackdown on Native Doctors

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has defended his administration’s clampdown on fake native doctors, citing the alarming number of Anambra indigenes facing death sentences abroad due to drug-related offences.

Speaking on Wednesday to former All Progressives Congress (APC) members who defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in support of his re-election, Soludo revealed that 23 Anambra natives are currently on death row in Indonesia.

“Go to Indonesia, 23 Ndi Anambra are on death row there for drug-related offences,” he said.

He blamed deceptive native doctors for misleading young people into believing in charms that supposedly make them invisible to airport scanners.

“These native doctors deceive them with promises of charms that blind airport scanners. Our youths believe them and end up in foreign prisons,” he said.

The governor emphasized that anyone claiming to have such powers would face arrest, stating that their actions promote a dangerous, get-rich-quick mentality among young people.

“One detained native doctor’s son is a waiter in Nnewi. If his charms worked, why didn’t he make his own son rich?” Soludo asked.

He also disclosed that another arrested individual claimed to be just a content creator, despite promoting harmful rituals online.

Soludo clarified that the state government is not targeting traditional worshippers but is cracking down on those practicing harmful and deceptive forms of native medicine.

“We are not against genuine traditionalists. In the past, they were known for integrity. But today’s criminal native doctors are promoting deceit, and we won’t tolerate it,” he said.
