Authorities in Utah have stepped up the hunt for the gunman who fatally shot conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, releasing new video footage of the suspect fleeing the scene.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Thursday that the FBI has received more than 7,000 tips and conducted nearly 200 interviews. He appealed for more public assistance, warning, “We cannot do our job without the public’s help right now.”

The video shows the suspect running across a campus rooftop before escaping into nearby woods, where investigators recovered a rifle believed to have been used in the attack. Officials said the weapon bore political writings, and the shooter left palm impressions and a shoe print linked to Converse sneakers.

Authorities described the suspect as wearing a black T-shirt with an American flag and eagle, blue jeans, a triangle-logo baseball cap, sunglasses and a black backpack. Additional footage obtained by CNN showed a man matching that description walking toward the university shortly before the shooting.

Kirk, 31, was killed Wednesday while speaking at the school. President Donald Trump said he will attend Kirk’s funeral in Arizona and posthumously award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The FBI and more than 20 law enforcement agencies are assisting in the manhunt.
