Seven travellers have been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers along the Obbo-Aiyegunle/Osi Road in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The victims, who were travelling in a Sienna bus operated by an Offa-based transport company, were on their way from Abuja to Offa when the assailants struck. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025.
The attackers reportedly blocked the highway, halted the vehicle at gunpoint, and whisked away seven adult occupants, including the driver, during a brazen 20-minute operation. Three children, aged between 2 and 12, were left behind at the scene.
Confirming the incident, Mr. Mukaila Ogunlade, secretary of the transport company, said, “The bus initially departed with five passengers, but two more joined en route. We are now searching for seven people in total.”
He noted that the attack occurred near Obbo-Aiyegunle, an area grappling with worsening insecurity.
The Kwara State Police Command has launched a rescue operation. In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the command confirmed the abduction and provided updates on the investigation.
