Nigeria’s leading carrier, Air Peace, has added a Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft to its fleet and commenced direct flight operations between Lagos and Barbados.
The airline disclosed in a statement that the newly acquired aircraft arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on May 24, 2026.
Registered as 5N-CGD, the Boeing 737-800 NG is configured with 189 Economy Class seats and is expected to support growing passenger traffic on domestic and regional routes.
According to Air Peace, the aircraft is equipped with larger overhead storage compartments, advanced avionics systems, modern safety features and fuel-efficient engines.
The airline said the addition forms part of efforts to improve operational efficiency, route deployment and schedule reliability across its expanding network in Nigeria and other African destinations.
“The addition of this aircraft is part of our strategic drive to meet rising passenger demand across domestic and regional markets,” the airline stated.
Air Peace also noted that the aircraft’s fuel-efficient engines would help reduce operational costs and carbon emissions.
The airline added that the fleet expansion aligns with its broader objective of improving connectivity within Africa and supporting economic activities across the continent.
Meanwhile, Air Peace has launched direct commercial flight services between Lagos and Barbados in a move aimed at strengthening links between Africa and the Caribbean.
The airline confirmed that its inaugural Lagos-Barbados flight departed on May 24 aboard a Boeing 777 aircraft carrying more than 284 passengers.
Among those onboard were the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nowel Ngala; Barbados High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia, Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland; actress Temitope Olowoniyan; and other airline representatives.
According to Air Peace, the new route is expected to ease travel between the two regions by reducing lengthy transit times and multiple stopovers often associated with connecting flights.
The airline said the service would cater to tourists, business travellers, diaspora communities and participants in cultural exchange programmes.
Industry stakeholders described the launch as an important development for Nigeria’s aviation sector and regional connectivity.
Air Peace stated that the Barbados route is expected to support tourism, trade, investment and cultural relations between West Africa and the Caribbean.
The airline added that return flights from Barbados to Lagos began on May 25, while subsequent services on the route would operate twice monthly.
