Tragedy struck in the Nollywood community as two actors reportedly died under unclear circumstances during a house party in Owerri, the Imo State capital, last Friday.
According to sources, the incident occurred after a film crew wrapped up a movie shoot and gathered at the home of one of their directors to celebrate. What was meant to be a night of relaxation and bonding quickly turned into a scene of horror.
Eyewitnesses revealed that four individuals were affected in the incident. While two were confirmed dead on the spot, the remaining two were found unconscious and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Details surrounding the cause of the incident remain sketchy, as no official statement has been made regarding what may have led to the deaths.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, said: “The command is aware of the unfortunate incident of unnatural death. I can confirm that two people were pronounced dead while two others were hospitalised.”
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered a full-scale investigation, including a post-mortem examination, to determine the exact cause of death.
“The results of the autopsy will guide our next steps in this matter,” Okoye noted.
As the industry and the public await further updates, the incident has cast a pall over Nollywood, prompting concern about the safety and welfare of film practitioners.
