An Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has granted controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, bail in the sum of N1 million following his arraignment on multiple charges.
Portable, known for his frequent brushes with controversy, was charged with criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public disturbance, and cyberstalking.
The court stipulated that the bail would be secured with two sureties in like sum. According to the conditions, one of the sureties must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the second must own a property located within a Government Reserved Area (GRA), accompanied by a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
The singer was arrested in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday by operatives of the state police command. His arrest followed a petition filed by fellow musician, Okunola Saheed, popularly known as ‘Osupa’.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, issued a statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case has since sparked public debate, drawing attention to the growing trend of legal battles involving high-profile entertainment figures.
