Nigerian-born British boxer Anthony Joshua survived a serious road accident on Monday morning along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State, though two people reportedly died at the scene.
Eyewitnesses said Joshua was traveling in a Lexus SUV (number plate KRD 850 HN) around 11 a.m. when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck. Joshua sustained only minor injuries.
Adeniyi Orojo, who witnessed the crash near Danco Filling Station before the Sagamu Interchange, said: “It was a two-vehicle convoy. Joshua was seated behind the driver with another passenger beside him. There were four occupants in the Lexus. His security detail was in the vehicle behind. Sadly, the passenger beside the driver and another occupant died instantly.”
Rescue efforts were immediately launched by eyewitnesses, who flagged down oncoming vehicles until the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived on the scene.
Social media quickly lit up with messages of concern for Joshua, while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Attempts to reach TRACE Commandant Akinbiyi Babatunde for further updates were unsuccessful.
