The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned five men suspected of involvement in the abduction of 20 prospective members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Imo State.
The suspects are Ibrahim Jiji, Aminu Haliru, Mohammed Ali, Usman Aliyu and Babangida Aliyu.
They were arrested during coordinated, intelligence-led operations involving the DSS, military and police in Rivers and Abia states between October 10 and 14.
The operations reportedly took place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State.
Three other suspects linked to the alleged criminal gang reportedly escaped during the operations with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. Security operatives are said to be searching for the fleeing suspects.
The incident dates back to October 1, 2026, when armed men abducted 20 prospective corps members along the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway in Imo State.
The victims were travelling to their designated NYSC orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when they were seized.
They were rescued on October 7 during a joint security operation at Amakohia Ubi Village in Imo State.
The arraignment marks a further development in the investigation into the abduction. However, details of the specific charges filed against the five suspects and the court in which they were arraigned were not immediately available.
