Reactions continue to pour in over the recent killing of two Chinese miners and a police escort in Uturu, Abia State. The Abia State Government has revealed that preliminary investigations suggest that the victims may have been trailed from Ebonyi State to Abia by their attackers.

Okey Kanu, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, disclosed this during a briefing with journalists on Monday, following the Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu confirmed that security agencies are currently investigating the crime, but clarified that it did not appear to be a kidnapping incident. He also confirmed that the police had successfully rescued the remaining members of the travelling team.

“The police immediately swung into action and rescued the rest of the travelling team,” Kanu stated. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the Chinese travelling party may have been trailed from Ebonyi State to Abia by the bandits.”

The Commissioner emphasized that the state security agencies are working to uncover the motives behind the attack, given that it was not a typical kidnapping incident.

In addition, Kanu announced that the Abia State Health Insurance Scheme would be launched by Governor Alex Otti on Thursday in Umuahia. He also revealed plans for a joint intervention hearing mission, which will be launched by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Otti to assist those with hearing challenges in Abia State.
