The National Examinations Council (NECO) has opened investigations into 38 schools across 13 states over alleged mass cheating in the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Registrar Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, who released the results in Minna on Wednesday, said the affected schools would face sanctions after appearing before the council.
He noted that nine supervisors in Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano and Osun were recommended for blacklisting for aiding malpractice, poor supervision, assault and unruly conduct.
Wushishi added that malpractice cases dropped significantly to 3,878 this year, compared with 10,094 in 2024.
Out of 1,358,339 candidates who sat for the exams, 818,492 (60.26 per cent) obtained five credits including English and Mathematics, while 1,144,496 (84.26 per cent) scored five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects.
Kano led the state performance chart with 68,159 candidates, followed by Lagos (67,007) and Oyo (48,742).
The registrar said NECO would now conduct SSCE on 38 subjects under the revised national curriculum, aimed at shortening the examination process and result release time.
