Former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Defence Minister, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd.), has opened up about his declining health, expressing a sense of urgency as he reflected on the twilight of his life.

Speaking during his turbaning as the Gang Paan Ganye by the Gangwari Ganye, His Royal Highness Alhaji Adamu Sanda, the 86-year-old statesman candidly told the audience:
“Time is running out for me rapidly, as you can see. I’m a sick old man.”

General Danjuma, widely respected for his boldness, military distinction, business success, and philanthropy through the TY Danjuma Foundation, remains a towering figure in Nigeria’s modern history. His rare admission has sparked concern among admirers across the country.

Despite acknowledging his frailty, Danjuma used the occasion to deliver a strong message on national unity and leadership. He stressed that loyalty to leaders is critical to Nigeria’s peace, development, and democratic stability.

“Adamawa people, I plead with you to be loyal to your leaders and Nigeria at large. That is the only way to achieve peace and development,” he said.

Danjuma's comments come at a time of growing national discontent and political uncertainty, amplifying the relevance of his call for unity and collective responsibility.
