The management of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has disowned the truck involved in Wednesday’s fatal accident on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, stating it belongs to Visco Investment Global Limited, a third-party operator.

Reports had claimed a Dangote-branded truck rammed into vehicles at Four Corner, Nkanu West, killing several people, including an entire family. Eyewitness videos showed a crushed car with no survivors.

Reacting, Dangote Group said in a statement that the vehicle, though carrying its logo, was not part of its fleet.

“We are engaging with the appropriate agencies to determine why the truck was bearing our logo despite not being in our fleet,” the company said, while condemning what it called misinformation linking all such accidents to its trucks.

Dangote also announced plans to prevent unauthorised use of its logo and brand identity.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with activist Charles Ogbu lamenting the frequency of accidents involving Dangote-branded trucks.

This tragedy comes days after Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija winner Phyna, died from injuries sustained in an earlier accident involving a Dangote truck in Auchi, Edo State.

In a statement, the company expressed condolences to Ruth’s family, noting that it had covered her medical expenses and arranged to fly her to India for treatment before her passing.

Dangote reiterated its commitment to safety and accountability, pledging to tighten measures and support victims of accidents linked to its operations.
