A female officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), identified as Kate Akpabio, has been abducted by armed men in the Rantya community of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, was disclosed by security and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
According to Makama, the gunmen stormed Akpabio’s residence at around 5:30 a.m. and whisked her away to an unknown destination before security operatives could respond.
"On May 26, at about 5:30 a.m., armed hoodlums invaded a residence in the Rantya community and abducted one Kate Jonathan Akpabio, a staff member of the FRSC in Jos,” Makama reported. “Army troops and other security agencies were mobilised to the scene upon receiving the distress call. A preliminary investigation confirmed that the victim was taken to an undisclosed location before security forces arrived."
Reacting to the development, FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide said he had not yet received a briefing from the Sector Commander in Plateau State.
“I have not received any details from the sector commander regarding the incident. Once I do, I’ll provide an update,” Ogungbemide said.
The abduction adds to the growing concern over the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, especially the North Central region.
