Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has been included in the 2025 edition of the Football Black List, in recognition of his influence and community work beyond the football field.
The organisers announced the honourees on Tuesday through their official X (formerly Twitter) account, placing the Nigerian international in the “Players – Off the Pitch” category. Iwobi was recognised alongside Arsenal star Eberechi Eze and England and Lionesses defender Jess Carter.
The Football Black List, established in 2008, celebrates Black football personalities who use their visibility and platforms to promote social change, philanthropy, and community development within and outside the sport.
Iwobi earned the recognition largely for his commitment to initiatives that support and empower young people. Through various programmes, the midfielder has helped provide opportunities for underserved Black youths, organising football clinics, mentorship programmes, educational workshops, and grassroots competitions.
One of the key highlights of his initiative is the P17 Cup, an annual football tournament aimed at nurturing young talent and encouraging positive engagement among youths.
His humanitarian and youth development efforts recently earned him the Baobab Award in Sport, an honour that acknowledges individuals making meaningful contributions to society through sports.
Other personalities featured on the 2025 Football Black List include Naomi Bedeau of Oxford United Women and Grenada international, as well as Shakira Waithe, who plays for Enfield Town and represents Barbados.
Reacting to the recognition, the Super Eagles congratulated Iwobi on social media, writing: “We are proud of you, Alex @alexiwobi.”
Founded by sports journalist Leon Mann and other advocates, the Football Black List annually recognises individuals making significant contributions to football through leadership, activism, and community engagement, highlighting achievements both on and off the pitch.
