Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has disclosed that the players don't even know who will lead the team for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.
Omeruo spoke about the head coach’s uncertainty in a recent interview with Arise TV.
Over the past months, there have been debates about the future of Jose Peseiro as the Eagles head coach.
In June, Ibrahim Gusau, president of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), said the fate of the Portuguese will be decided by public votes.
However, no decision has been made regarding the public votes, and there are reports that top brass at the NFF are already lining up a temporary replacement for Peseiro.
Although the Eagles have qualified for the 2023 AFCON, they will face Sao Tome in the final group game of the qualifier on September 10.
During the interview, Omeruo described the situation as “crazy” while also demanding an “urgent fix”.
He called for stability in the team’s technical crew.
“When it comes to talent, Nigerians have amazing players. Even those that are on the bench in the national team go to their club sides and bang in goals week in, week out. We need to have a stable technical crew. A technical crew will take us to where we are supposed to be and give us exactly [the guidance] that we get in Europe,” the 29-year-old said.
“We do not even know who will be the coach in the next game. It is crazy, and it has to be fixed.”
The Eagles lead Group A of the qualification round with 12 points from five games, followed by Guinea-Bissau with 10 points.
Sierra Leone are in the third spot with five points, while Sao Tome seat at the base of the group with 1 point.
