The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially moved the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco from its original March schedule to a new July–August window.

The announcement, made Thursday on CAF’s official website, ends weeks of uncertainty about the timing of the continent’s premier women’s football competition.

CAF confirmed that the tournament will now run from July 25 to August 16, 2026, after consultations with FIFA and other key stakeholders involved in organising the event.

The governing body explained that the change was necessary to ensure the success of WAFCON 2026 in view of “unexpected issues” affecting the original schedule.

The statement reads: “In October 2024, CAF granted Morocco the hosting rights for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026. The tournament was originally set for 17 March to 3 April 2026. After discussions with FIFA and other partners, CAF has decided to reschedule the competition to 25 July – 16 August 2026 to ensure a successful staging of this important women’s competition.”

CAF also confirmed that preparations for the tournament remain on track and expressed confidence in its successful execution, noting that “all parties are committed to delivering a high-quality event that will celebrate African women’s football.”
