The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has hailed British-Nigerian heavyweight sensation, Moses Itauma, following his emphatic victory over veteran Dillian Whyte in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Gabriel Odu, the Commission described Itauma’s triumph as a testament to the discipline, resilience, and excellence for which Nigerians around the world are recognised.

Born in Kežmarok, Slovakia, to a Nigerian father and Slovak mother, the 20-year-old later moved to England where he has emerged as one of boxing’s most exciting young prospects.

“His latest success is a reflection of his discipline and resilience, qualities that highlight the excellence Nigerians are known for globally,” NiDCOM stated. “Moses’ achievement is a source of inspiration not only to Nigerians in the diaspora but also to young athletes everywhere aspiring to greatness.”

On Saturday night, Itauma needed just 119 seconds to stop Whyte with a devastating first-round knockout at the ANB Arena. The explosive win saw him retain his WBA International and WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight titles while also capturing the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight crown.

With the victory, Itauma extended his professional record to 13–0, including 11 knockouts, and rose to No. 1 in the World Boxing Organization (WBO) rankings, firmly establishing himself as one of the brightest stars in the sport’s future.

NiDCOM which celebrated the milestone, added, “Congratulations, Moses — your victory makes Nigerians everywhere proud. We look forward to seeing your continued rise on the global stage.”
