Lagos is gearing up to welcome some of the biggest names in global sports and entertainment as the maiden E1 Lagos Grand Prix (GP), an all-electric powerboat racing championship, takes place from October 3 to 5, 2025.

The championship will see teams owned by international stars such as Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki and Rafael Nadal compete on the Lagos waterfront, ahead of the season finale in Miami, United States.

The historic event is being staged with the backing of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, which was unveiled as presenting partner during a stakeholder immersion session in Lagos.

Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications at FirstBank, said the partnership reflects the bank’s passion for driving legacies through sports. “Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about enabling the passions and aspirations that unite Nigerians. Sports drives us as a country, and through our First@Sports initiative, we continue to invest in platforms that inspire and elevate our people,” he noted.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, described the championship as more than just a race. “It will grow not only the sport but also showcase Lagos’s vibrant culture, dynamic people and global relevance,” he said, commending FirstBank for its support.

The E1 Lagos GP, which coincides with the city’s festive build-up, will be integrated into FirstBank’s annual DecemberIssaVybe campaign, offering fans and visitors an immersive experience that blends sport, culture and entertainment.
