Gift Orban, Gent forward, was forced out of Nigeria’s final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday following an an injury he picked up during training on Friday.
Orban, 21, did not feature as Supper Eagles trashed the minnows, Sao Tome and Principe 6 - 0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Sunday to finish top of their group on 15 points.
The Genk forward was one of the three debutants invited for the last game of their qualifiers alongside Victor Boniface and Jordan Torunarigha.
The forward has enjoyed a bright start to the new season scoring six goals in nine appearances for his Belgian club but will now have to wait to make his debut for the three-time African champions.
Orban was not the only player made to wait for his Eagles debut as Torunarigha was not called into action as the Eagles beat the Selecao 6-0 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo.
The defender sat on the bench for the entire 90 minutes as Jose Peseiro preferred Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey at the heart of the defence while Ola Aina and Onyaemechi Bruno started as full-backs.
