Two TikTok influencers, Babatunde Peter Olaitan (TDollar) and Tobilola Olamide (TobiNation), have been sentenced to six months in prison for spraying Naira notes at a party in Lagos.
Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi delivered the ruling on May 8, 2025, after both men pleaded guilty to violating Section 21(1) of the CBN Act, which prohibits the abuse of Nigeria’s currency.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted the case after a viral TikTok video showed TDollar spraying money during an April 8 event at 23 Macdonald Road, Ikoyi. Their confessional statements and video evidence were presented in court.
Although sentenced to six months, each influencer was given the option to pay a N200,000 fine in lieu of jail time.
The case is part of a broader crackdown on currency abuse in public and on social media.
