Allegations by popular South African Reality Star and TV personality, Malinbanwe Gumede that Nigerian women place money above love in relationships has begun to attract reaction from Nigerian women, who frown at such profile and generalization. The South African star in a recent interview accused Nigerian women of being too money conscious in their relationship with men.
"No, Nigerian women are the most submissive in the world. It's only on rare occasions that some of them look the other way round," rising actress and script writer, Chioma Nwangwu, aka Queen of the Ink, stated that there are reasons why a lady may seem to be money conscious.
Gumede, who made the assertion during the latest episode of Frankly Speaking podcast co-hosted by Nollywood actor, Chinedu Ani Emmanuel (Nedu),
According to her, South African women, once they love a guy, no matter the nationality, do not hide their feelings.
"He doesn't even have to start spending money before he's liked. We offer genuine love."
Gumede, who spoke on the perceived disparity in approaches between South African and Nigerian women, further stated that; "what I've noticed with Nigerian girls is that, first, they need to suck everything out of a man. It's all about money and if you don't have, they won't even speak to you."
Gumede said: “We South African women, if we like a guy, let’s say a Nigerian guy, we will not hide our feelings. You don’t even have to start spending money before I can do anything with you. If I like you, I like you. It’s genuine.“What will they be gaining from you if you don’t have the money to maintain their lifestyles.
Commenting further, Chioma Nwangwu, stated that there are reasons why a lady may seem to be money conscious.
"It may be that the things concern their welfare, and secondly, when they work for the money. But you see, everything has a price, those who claim to love are very stubborn to men and very independent, unlike Nigerian women, who would obey their men and stick with them come what may", she declared.
