Veteran gospel singer, Sola Allyson, has opened up about a disturbing encounter she had with a stranger while caught in Lagos traffic, describing the experience as deeply unsettling and emotionally jarring.

Speaking during a recent live session on Instagram, Allyson recounted being stopped at a traffic light in the Lekki area when a man in a nearby vehicle suddenly winked at her in what she perceived to be a suggestive and inappropriate manner.

The gesture, she said, left her feeling insulted, uneasy, and introspective—prompting her to question whether she had unknowingly given off a wrong impression.

“As someone who is deeply spiritually sensitive, I immediately began to reflect on my appearance and conduct,” Allyson said. “I asked myself if I had somehow projected openness to such advances.”

She highlighted the cultural connotation of a wink from a man, typically seen as an indication of romantic or sexual interest, and expressed her discomfort at being on the receiving end of such a gesture despite being modestly dressed.

“I felt dirty, I felt small, I felt little, I felt insulted,” she lamented. “We all know what it means when a guy winks at a lady. I don’t like it. I wasn’t dressed in a way that should invite such behavior.”

The encounter, she said, left a lasting emotional impact and underscored her ongoing concern about how women—even those in modest attire—are often misjudged or objectified in public spaces.

Allyson’s candid revelation has sparked discussions among her followers, many of whom praised her for shedding light on the emotional toll such seemingly minor incidents can have.
