Veteran musician and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has said he is unfazed by the recent renaming of a Lagos bus stop that previously bore his name.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Briefing on Tuesday, Charly Boy stated that he has no personal attachment to the decision by residents and officials of the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to replace “Charly Boy Bus Stop” with “Badoo Bus Stop.”

“It doesn’t matter to me. Anyone who has done something meaningful for their community can take the shine,” he said. “I’m indifferent. That’s not our priority right now.”

‘Bigger issues to address’

The entertainer stressed that Nigerians should pay attention to more pressing national matters, particularly electoral credibility.
“There are bigger things we should be concerned about — like ensuring that come 2024, our votes count. That’s the focus we should all have,” he added.

Charly Boy also dismissed claims that he felt slighted by the development, insisting that true legacy goes beyond names on public structures.

The renaming of the bus stop by outgoing Bariga LCDA chairman, Kolade Alabi, has stirred debate among locals and online commentators. While some questioned the reasons behind the change, others said community landmarks often evolve with time and public sentiment.
