Chuck Norris, the martial arts champion who became one of Hollywood’s most recognisable action stars, has died at the age of 86.

His family announced his passing in a statement, saying he died peacefully in the company of loved ones after a recent hospitalisation. They described his death as sudden and requested privacy as they grieve.

“To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and the heart of our family,” the statement read.

Born in Oklahoma in 1940, Norris served in the United States Air Force before launching a career in martial arts that would earn him global recognition. He held multiple black belts across disciplines, establishing himself as a respected figure in the field long before entering the film industry.

His transition to Hollywood came in the early 1970s, with a breakout role opposite Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon. The performance introduced him to international audiences and paved the way for a string of action films, including Delta Force and Missing in Action.

Norris later cemented his place in television history with his lead role in Walker, Texas Ranger, where he portrayed lawman Cordell “Cord” Walker. The series ran for years and became a defining part of his legacy.

According to reports, Norris had been hospitalised in Hawaii shortly before his death due to a medical emergency. His family acknowledged the outpouring of support, thanking fans for their prayers and goodwill.

They also paid tribute to his life, describing him as a man of faith, discipline, and kindness whose influence extended far beyond film and martial arts.

Norris is survived by his wife, Gena O’Kelley, and his five children.

His death marks the passing of a cultural icon whose career spanned decades and whose impact on action cinema and martial arts continues to resonate worldwide.
