A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has barred Premier Music from the use and sale of Orits Williki's albums subsequently.
The albums, Conqueror, Tribulation and Wha' Dis Wha' Dat', were earlier released and marketed by the company.
This was in response to a copyright suit instituted by the musician's attorney, which ruled that there's no perpetuity in copyright just as it emphasized that recording is inconsistent while the album had expired after 25 years.
The court awarded 50 million naira as damages for loss of revenue in favour of Williki.
However, in a quick reaction to the development, General Manager of Premier Music, Mr. Odiong said that the company was yet to receive the certified true copy of the ruling. He said that they would read, study and act on it thereafter.
Orits dazzled reggae fans in the 1980s and 90s with scintillating songs that monopolised the top hits and made him a house hold name. His political song, Fight the fire brought him into confrontation with the Babangida military regime.
