Obi hails Nigerian-born musician inducted into European Hall of Fame

Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has celebrated Alban Uzoma Nwapa, professionally known as Dr Alban, a  Nigerian-born Swedish musician and producer who was recently inducted into the European Hall of Fame.

The former Anambra State governor said in a post on X on Friday that the  success story of Nwapa, who is noted to have sold over 16 million records worldwide, aligns with his firm belief in the creative power of Nigerians, remarking that with people like him, a new Nigeria is possible.

"A Nigerian-born Swedish musician and producer, Alban Uzoma Nwapa, popularly known as Dr Alban, was recently inducted into the European Hall of Fame. Dr Alban has an estimated 16 million records sold worldwide, with his 1992 hit "It's My Life" reaching number one in several countries, including Israel, Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Germany," Obi wrote.

"He also founded his music label, Dr. Records, further cementing his legacy in the music world. His success story aligns with my firm belief in the creative power of Nigerians, especially the youths who, when given the right training and opportunities, always excel in many areas with their infinite endowment of talents and skills."

Continuing, the former governor said, "In academics, science and technology, sports and entertainment, arts and music, etc, our youths have continued to compete favourably and shine on the global stage. I congratulate Dr Alban for his achievements and his contributions to our nation.

"Success stories as he always renew my resolve to remain committed to building a New Nigeria where our diversely talented youths will discover their full potential and utilise it for the development and progress of the nation.

"With more of such illustrious citizens, a New Nigeria is POssible."
