Rapper MC Hammer is facing a lawsuit in the United States over allegations that he failed to repay a car loan on a high-end Land Rover.

According to court filings in California last week, JPMorgan Chase claims the hip-hop star — famous for his 1990 global hit U Can’t Touch This — and his company, U Can’t Touch This LLC, borrowed $114,000 in 2023 to purchase the vehicle.

The bank alleges that after missing several monthly instalments, Hammer and his company still owe more than $76,000.

Hammer, born Stanley Burrell, rose to fame in the late 1980s and became a pop culture sensation with U Can’t Touch This, his trademark “Hammer Pants,” and energetic dance moves that were imitated worldwide.

At the height of his career, he enjoyed lucrative endorsements, including a Mattel figurine and the Hammerman cartoon. However, by the mid-1990s, his stardom had faded, and he filed for bankruptcy.

The rapper has yet to publicly comment on the latest legal action.
