Indications of a possible thaw in the protracted political rift in Rivers State surfaced on Monday night after President Bola Tinubu reportedly hosted Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to a report by The Nation, the meeting, which also involved other political stakeholders from the state, was held behind closed doors, with no official details released afterward.
The newspaper, however, reported that Governor Fubara accompanied Wike to his residence in Guzape, Abuja, following the discussions with the President.
It further claimed that the governor allegedly appealed to the former Rivers State governor and pledged to maintain respect in their relationship, a move observers see as a potential step toward easing months of political tension in the oil-rich state.
