Former militant leader and ex-MEND commander, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has spoken out amid the political crisis in Rivers State, assuring that Governor Siminalayi Fubara will be reinstated despite the recent state of emergency declaration.

Tompolo's statement comes as governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) began a crucial two-day meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, to address mounting concerns within the party. Chief among their agenda is the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State and the controversial suspension of Governor Fubara.

In a related move, former House of Representatives member, Dr. Farah Dagogo, has taken legal action against President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Etteh Ibas (retd), challenging the legitimacy of the emergency declaration.

Meanwhile, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) has condemned the reported removal and destruction of billboards bearing Governor Fubara’s image across parts of Rivers State, describing the act as disgraceful and a violation of political decorum.

The PDP governors’ meeting is expected to be pivotal as they prepare to deliberate on their legal challenge against the Federal Government’s emergency declaration, which is currently before the Supreme Court.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed that the meeting commenced on Sunday in Ibadan and is scheduled to conclude today.

According to party sources, the agenda of the meeting is extensive and includes discussions on:

The Supreme Court case challenging the emergency declaration and Fubara’s suspension

The internal crisis within the PDP National Working Committee (NWC)

Leadership disputes in the South-South

Preparations for the forthcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting

The unresolved controversy over the position of National Secretary

“The meeting is critical for the future of the party,” a source familiar with the agenda stated. “It will help define our position and unify our approach to both the Rivers situation and internal leadership matters.”

As tensions remain high in Rivers and across PDP ranks, all eyes are on the governors’ deliberations in Ibadan and the legal outcome at the Supreme Court.
