President Bola Tinubu has approved a fresh cabinet reshuffle, relieving the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, of their duties as part of ongoing efforts to reposition his administration’s economic team.

The changes were announced in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, which also confirmed the appointment of Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the finance ministry, is expected to assume full responsibility for coordinating Nigeria’s fiscal policies and economic strategy.

In the same announcement, the president nominated Muttaqha Rabe Darma as minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, subject to Senate confirmation.

The memo directed that Dangiwa should hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry, with all transition processes to be concluded by April 23, 2026.

Explaining the development, Akume said the reshuffle is intended to improve cohesion within the cabinet, strengthen policy coordination, and enhance delivery of the administration’s economic agenda.

According to him, the changes are part of efforts to ensure more effective implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda and improve outcomes for citizens.

“The adjustments are aimed at deepening synergy in governance and ensuring more impactful delivery on the economy,” the statement said.

He added that the president exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.

Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and contributions to national development, while wishing them success in their future engagements.

He also signalled that further adjustments to the cabinet are possible, stressing that government restructuring is a continuous process aimed at improving performance and accountability.
