The Association of Resident Doctors under the Federal Capital Territory Administration has suspended its indefinite strike, bringing to an end 30 days of disrupted medical services across Abuja.
ARD-FCTA President, Dr. George Ebong, announced the suspension in a message to our correspondent on Monday. He said the decision came after the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, approved the doctors’ key demands.
The strike, which began on November 1, 2025, affected operations in 14 district and general hospitals as well as the Department of Public Health, where the resident doctors provide essential services.
Ebong said the association was giving the FCTA a four-week window to implement the approved measures.
“ARD-FCTA has suspended its strike for four weeks with the hope that the approvals from Mr. Minister will be implemented,” he stated.
Despite calling off the action, the doctors issued a firm warning that they would not hesitate to resume the strike if the government fails to fulfil its commitments within the stipulated period.
The industrial action had been launched to demand improved welfare, fair remuneration, and better working conditions, leading to significant delays in patient care and increased pressure on limited medical staff across the FCT.
