Comic and Nollywood celebrity, Mr. John Okafor, alias, Ibu, who has been in the news over health reasons may not have had one of his legs amputated if he had acted fast. His situation raised national concern, as the news filtered that his leg would be amputated.
According to feelers, the toast of movie lovers within and outside our shores, had been living with noticeable "pain in the leg" for as long as people knew him in the movie industry. He even walk with a noticeable limp.
However, probably because the pain was not as intensive as it later became to demand a surgery, he lived with it until recently. The news broke 48 hours ago that the star of many hit movies has had the leg finally amputated after multiple surgeries.
"I have known "Mr Ibu for almost 30 years now. And I'm aware that he limps but it never prevented him from being at his best at any time," said a colleague of his under anonymity.
The family broke the news of the amputation this week, saying it was the only option to save his life, and thanked Nigerians for their support and prayers. The statement, which was issued on his behalf on his X-handle, by a member of his family, said the worse seemed over.
Following Save Our Soul call for help by Ibu on his hospital bed, which many Nigerians, former Senate President, Dr. Olusola Saraki and a host of other Nigerians rallied around him with financial support which enabled him undergo the surgery.
This raises the issue of the lifestyle of our actors and musicians who live larger than life and fail to plan ahead, and later fall into hard times, as a result of unexpected emergencies.
